Radiation enteropathy

Investigation 

• Sigmoidoscopy,  colonoscopy- 

1.  Rectu: ulcerative proctitis
2. Mucosa: erythematous, friable with contact bleeding 
3. Sub mucosal vessel: not visible 

• Barium follow through, MRI etrography 
  • to see small bowel involvements

Management 

1. For diarrhea  

• codeine phosphate, diphenoxylate, loperamide 

1. Antibiotics 

• for bacterial overgrowth 

1. Nutritional support  

• if malabsorption 

1. Bile acid diarrhea 

• cholestyramine,  colesevelam 

1. 1. Sucralfate enema, Hyperbaric oxygen (glucocorticoids enema is not effective )

• Endoscopic procedure

• Argon plasma coagulation
• Radio frequency ablation
• Heater probe thermocoagulation 

1. Surgery: should be avoided. Indication

• Obstruction
• Perforation
• Fistula
