Management:
- Pre-pregnancy counseling
- epilepsy should be well controlled before conception.
- High-dose folic acid from pre-conception,
- Reviewing antiepileptic drugs (AEDs)
- Drug of choice (CLL): lamotrigine, levetiracetam or carbamazepine
- minimum number of drugs at the lowest effective dose required for control of epilepsy
- Monitoring of plasma levels of AED: drug level can fall in pregnancy.
- Delivery: institutional with trained medical staff.
- General safety advice: showering instead of bathing, avoid driving, swimming, fire.
